NRNA's 8th Global Conference starts in Kathmandu

 President Bhandari urges to support in development

Kathmandu, Oct. 14: The 8th Global Conference of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and NRNA International General Assembly kicked off in the capital on Saturday.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurated the 4-day jamboree of the NRNs which is attended by more than 1000 representatives from about 77 countries.
Bhandari urged the NRNs to support in the development endeavours of Nepal.
“After the successful conclusion of the peace process, the country has embarked on the path of economic and social prosperity, and it needs rapid development in various sectors. As the development of Nepal will be a matter of pride for the NRNs, you have a role and liability to its development,” she told the NRNs.
President Bhandari said that the county had an immense potential of investment in various sectors such as agriculture, tourism, technology, infrastructure, health and education.
According to her, the country has been trying to create good atmosphere for investment both domestic and foreign, has sufficient skilled, semiskilled and unskilled manpower, and will provide necessary support to the investors.
She appreciated the NRNs for their support in the post-quake reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood affected people.
President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Bhawani Rana stressed on mobilising youth power in the country.
Stating that the FNCCI was working to enhance the productivity in the youth and promote investment in productive sector, she urged the NRNA to support her organisation for the same.
“The government is trying to create favourable environment for business and investment with the promulgation and amendment of various laws. This is a high time that we invested to create employment and led the country on the path of prosperity,” she said.
Founding President of the NRNA Dr. Upendra Mahato said Nepalis should put their endeavours to develop Nepal, no matter where they might be.
“Our country needs investment to rescue it from the trap of imports and foreign employment. Nepal needs high growth in a short time span, therefore we need to unite for the same,” he said.
Chief Patron of the NRNA and President of its International Coordination Committee Jiba Lamichhane pledged continuous support in Nepal’s development.
“NRNs can play an important role in Nepal’s physical and economic development. Our investment will promote and attract other foreign direct investment,” he said.
NRNA President Shesh Ghale said that the confidence in the Nepali entrepreneurs was gradually increasing.
He urged the government to utilise the expertise of NRNs in technology and service sector.
He appreciated the government for the constitutional provision of NRN Citizenship, and said that although the NRNs were satisfied with the provision, they still demanded for the provision of dual citizenship.
The National Planning Commission’s Vice-Chairman Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Reconstruction Authority Dr. Govinda Pokharel, Commerce Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala and CEO of Investment Board Maha Prasad Adhikari expressed their views on post-quake reconstruction, development and investment.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) hosted a luncheon for the NRN delegates. Blood donation programme was also organised.
There will be an election on Monday to elect the new president and working committee of the NRNA.
