UAE demands 'Good conduct certificate' from expats

Kathmandu, Jan. 10: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a new provision which demands a ‘good conduct certificate’ for every foreign individual seeking work in the Arab nation.
Expatriate job seekers should submit the ‘good conduct certificate’ while applying for the work permit in the UAE from February 4 this year.
About 220,000 Nepalis are currently working in the UAE, and there has been double digit growth in their number every year.
According to UAE sources, the certificate must by issued by the home country of the job seekers or the five-year country of residence, and should be approved by the UAE embassy in the respective country of the applicant or at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s customer happiness centres’ attestation facilities.
Expats seeking jobs in the UAE will have to first obtain a certificate of good conduct to be issued a work permit as of February 4, the UAE Coordination Committee has announced. According to the committee, the rule, which follows the approval of a 2017 cabinet resolution, means that the good conduct certificate must be issued by the applicant’s home country or five-year country of residency, reported arabianbusiness.com.
The UAE government said that the decision came as an effort to enhance safety at work and in the community.
The rule will not be applied to the job applicant’s dependents or tourists.
