Minister for Foreign
Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that despite COVID-19's adverse impacts,
Nepal had achieved significant results in the past three years.
"Nepal has
made good progress in the development and other indices. Peace and security
situation has been improved while the government had brought the dissatisfied
political groups to the mainstream politics," he said while addressing the
73rd Anniversary of the Nepal Council of World Affairs (NCWA) in the
Capital on Monday.
He stated that the
government was in talks with the Biplav-led Communist Party.
"The
government has brought about 900,000 people out of poverty. It has taken timely
initiative to provide vaccines to people against coronavirus," he said.
According to him,
per capita income of Nepali citizen has increased by 35 per cent and crossed
US$ 1,000. Nepal has made good improvements in health, education, water supply
and sanitation areas in the Human Development Index 2020.
About 2,718 km road
is blacktopped in the past three years and 333 Megawatt electricity is added to
the national grid. About 90 per cent people have access to electricity and
water supply.
He also informed
that the post-quake reconstruction is in the final phase while rebuilding of heritages
has been expedited. About 700,000 private houses have been rebuilt. Minister
Gyawali said that the literacy has reached 85 per cent.
He also mentioned
that the economy has also been moving to the path of improvement. Nepal has
seen improvement in 14 different indices like human development, good business
environment, hunger and poverty, peace, rule of law, control of corruption,
transparency, happiness and gender equality, said the minister.
