Zambia appoints honorary consul in Nepal

Zambia has appointed Er. Desh Bandhu Basnet as its Honorary Consul in Nepal.

Judith K.K. Kan’goma Kapijimpanga, Ambassador of Zambia to India, has announced the appointment at a special ceremony held at the Embassy of Zambia in India.

"Basnet’s jurisdiction will be over the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur) and he shall handle the consular and economics issues on behalf of the Republic of Zambia," the consulate said in a statement on Wednesday.

Ambassador Kapijimpanga handed over all legal and related items to operate an office, including the National Flag and Official Seal of Zambia to Basnet.

Basnet said that the appointment would help promote and strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Zambia.

"It will also act as a catalyst in promoting and smoothing trade, investment and tourism. New Honorary Consul Office will help in developing strategic partnership between the two countries," he said.

Basnet is associated with various national and international associations. He is an Executive Committee Member at Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and chairperson of the Bi-National NRN Coordinator (FNCCI).

He is also an Executive Committee Member of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI).
