Kathmandu, Dec. 14: Construction work of Darbang
Myagdi Hydropower Project, promoted by the Non-Resident Nepalese (NRNs) from
Myagdi district, has started.
Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens
Tham Maya Thapa and chairman of Dhaulagiri Kalika Hydro, developer of the
project, Binod Kunwar jointly inaugurated the construction of the 25 megawatt
project on Friday by laying the foundation stone.
The project will be developed at the cost of Rs.
5.14 billion which will be managed through bank loan and equity shares.
Sanima Bank led consortium will finance Rs. 3.5
billion to the project while rest of the money will be managed through the
equity shares of Rs. 1.64 billion.
About 30 per cent shares will be issued to the
public investors.
The project is promoted by the NRN Association Hong
Kong, Kathmandu Myagdi Investment Company and Global Friendship Capital
Limited. Kunwar is the Deputy-Coordinator of the NRNA Asia Pacific region.
Dhaulagiri Kalika Hydro Company said that the project
would be completed in three and half years.
The dam of the project will be constructed in
Devisthan and the water will be channeled through a 5 kilometre tunnel to Rato
Dhunga of Darbang, and the water will fall to the powerhouse via 200 metre high
penstock pipe.
The electricity will be connected to the national
grid from the proposed Dandakhet Sub-station.
