Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal
said to Mongolia that the landlocked countries should jointly raise their voice
to safeguard their rights and interests.
In a meeting with Former Mongolian Prime
Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar at his office in the Singha Durbar on Monday
afternoon, he praised Mongolia for successfully maintaining balanced relations
with its neighbouring countries while building a strong international
reputation for managing strategic partnerships.
He said Nepal and Mongolia share many
geopolitical similarities and noted that Nepal could learn from Mongolia's
experience, informed FM Khanal's secretariat in a statement.
"Nepal is keen to expand cooperation
with Mongolia in the fields of development, trade, partnership, and the
preservation and promotion of Buddhist values and traditions," he stated.
The two leaders also discussed possible
measures to further strengthen bilateral and diplomatic ties. Khanal said
Nepal's new government was committed to deepening relations with Mongolia as a
spiritual partner and reaffirmed Nepal's willingness to enhance cooperation across
a range of sectors.
During the meeting, former Prime Minister
Zandanshatar highlighted the geographical similarities between Nepal and
Mongolia and said that small countries such as Nepal and Mongolia should work
together in the evolving global order.
Referring to the shared Buddhist values and
cultural heritage of the two nations, he described Nepal and Mongolia as each
other's spiritual neighbours.
Zandanshatar also expressed Mongolia's
interest in cooperating with Nepal in promoting Buddhist values and traditions,
preserving cultural heritage, and supporting the development of chess in Nepal.
Zandanshatar is on a visit to Nepal.
