Kathmandu, Oct. 3
A Nepali delegation led by Finance Minister
Dr. Swarnim Wagle left for Washington, D.C., on Friday night for a two-day
visit at the invitation of Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group.
During the visit, on October 5–6, the
delegation will hold discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation,
reconstruction, Nepal’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey
list and various aspects of broader economic reforms.
FM Dr. Wagle is scheduled to hold
high-level meetings with senior officials of the WB, the US Department of the
Treasury and the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC), as well
as leading private-sector investors, the Ministry of Finance informed.
The discussions with representatives of the
World Bank and the US government will focus on mobilising additional assistance
for the reconstruction of physical and economic infrastructure damaged by the
recent floods in the Bhotekoshi area and for building greater resilience in
development.
"A key objective of the visit is also
to promote greater investment by development partners and the private sector in
critical infrastructure, including roads and electricity transmission lines,
with the aim of creating employment and expanding economic opportunities within
Nepal," the MoF said in a statement.
