Kathmandu, June 30: The number of families receiving the first installment of house reconstruction grant has reached 13,616 by Thursday.
The number of households receiving the grant money by Wednesday was 10,450.
There are 533,058 families eligible for the housing reconstruction grant in the 11 districts severely hit by the devastating earthquake in April and May last year.
The government has been distributing Rs. 50,000 out of Rs. 200,000 as the first installment to the households that lost their houses in the tremors.
The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) has informed that the payment was ongoing in five districts.
“First installment of the grant has been deposited into the bank account of as many as 7,209 families in Gorakha, 4,416 in Dolakha, 845 in Sindhupalchowk, 705 in Rasuwa and 441 in Okhaldhunga,” read a press statement issued by the Ministry.
The government has signed house reconstruction grant agreement with 185,773 households in the severely hit 11 districts while 89,212 complaints were registered to the government claiming that although they were eligible to obtain the grant, they were not included in the beneficiary list.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to distribute the grant in two installments – Rs. 150,000 and Rs. 50,000.
