Passport in a Day

Kathmandu, July 3: Nepalese can now obtain their passports on the same day of application after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched a fast track service Sunday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa inaugurated the new service at the Department of Passport.
The applicants have to pay Rs 15,000 to get the document through the fast track. 
Passport can be acquired in two or three days by paying Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 10,000.
DPM Thapa handed over a passport, which was prepared within half an hour, to Chandra Kali Budhathoki amidst a programme organized at the department.
In addition to the fast track passport service, the department has launched online passport service which allows people to fill up the application for the passport online.
“People can fill up and submit the form online from anywhere and come to the department to allow us to take a photo. They can mention the date when they will come for a photograph. Such date should not exceed 21 days from the form submission,” informed Lok Bahadur Thapa, director general of the department.
The users need to visit www.nepalpassport.gov.np to fill up the form online.
After the form submission, the user will receive a bar code number. They should bring the bar code number, their citizenship certificate verified from the respective District Administration Office and old passport if they have any.
Even the Nepalese residing outside the country can apply for the passport through pre-live enrollment facility available online.
Currently, such service is available in New York and Washington DC of the United States, London of the United Kingdom, Abu Dhabi or the United Arab Emirates, Jeddah of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Kuwait.

The department provides passport in 35 days to those who pay Rs. 5,000.

“Along with these facilities, the department will print passport within 24 hours after it gets the application and sent to the district. Therefore, I hope the people in districts can be able to obtain the passport in 5 to 15 days,” said Lok Bahadur Thapa.
