July 21: President of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) Suraj
Vaidya Thursday informed that the regional association of trade and business
had proposed to develop the Karnali Chisapani multipurpose project as a
regional venture.

Interacting
with the journalists on the occasion of 100 days since Nepal assumed office of
the SAARC CCI, he said that his team was trying to attract investment into the
project from all SAARC member countries.

The
former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FNCCI) expressed his dissatisfaction that the economic agenda was
getting less priority at the regional level.
"The
future of our region is very challenging due to terrorism and violence. Every
country is experiencing some sort of terrorism. Therefore, we need to move
forward united and trust should be promoted among nations," he commented.
While
presenting his achievements as the president of the regional chamber of
commerce and industry, Vaidya said that his team visited Afghanistan which was
the first visit of its kind by the business delegation.
"We
visited other member of the SAARC, met heads of the government and other high
officials and discussed about the trade facilitation and investment promotion
at the regional level. We are planning to build SAARC CCI secretariat building
in Islamabad of Pakistan by September 2017," he informed.
He
said that the SAARC CCI would organize a regional business conclave and South
Asia Business Leaders' Award in near future.
Vice-president
of SAARC CCI and chair of Urban Development Committee under the FNCCI Om
Rajbhandari said, "We have given high importance to regional connectivity
and movement of people as it is the fundamental to creating regionalism in
terms of development."
He
stated that the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) motor vehicle agreement
could open new avenues in this regard.
