Kathmandu, Aug. 24

Nepal will participate in the High-Level Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) scheduled to be held in Belgrade, the Capital of Serbia, on August 31 and September 1 this year.

Nepali delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal.

The Minister's Secretariat informed in a statement on Monday that the Cabinet decided on August 11 to send a three-member Nepali delegation led by Foreign Minister Khanal to participate in the meeting.

The meeting is being organised in Belgrade this year to mark the 65th anniversary of the first summit which was held there in 1961.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Minister Khanal will depart for Serbia on the evening of 30 August and return to Nepal on 2 September.

World leaders, delegations from various countries and representatives of member states of the NAM will attend the event, read the statement.

Nepal has adopted the principle of non-alignment as one of the pillars of its foreign policy, while the Constitution also recognises Nepal’s commitment to the NAM as a key policy. Nepal has maintained high-level participation in the movement since the Bandung Conference, as well as at its summits, ministerial meetings and other gatherings.
