Kathmandu, Sept. 3
The Sikkim-Nepal Relief Volunteer Team is distributing relief materials in Nuwakot to support people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood.
A
35-member relief and volunteer team from Sikkim, formed with the support of
Sikkim Chief Minister PS Golay, reached Nuwakot on Thursday. The team is
scheduled to distribute essential items, including medicines, food, solar
lamps, tarpaulins, mattresses and sleeping bags, to flood-affected families, it
informed in a statement.
Sonam
Norgey Lachumpa, who leads the team, said the relief campaign was organised to
provide immediate necessities to families affected by the disaster.
The
relief campaign was coordinated by Minister for Innovation and Science and
Technology Mahabir Pun, Nepali Congress federal lawmaker Sandip Rana and young
entrepreneur Tika Bhandari. Hari Krishna Dahal, founding president of the Lions
Club of Ranjana Brothers, coordinated the local arrangements for the relief
team.
Lachumpa
said that, following the example of former Sikkim chief ministers Manik Kumar
Subba and Nar Bahadur Bhandari, who showed concern for Nepalis living in
different parts of India, current CM Tamang has been playing a supportive role
for Nepalis living across India.
He
said Golay is expected to visit Nepal in the near future with additional relief
assistance.
