The NADA
Automobiles Association has urged the government to implement relief measures
for the affected importers as soon as possible, as hundreds of vehicles had
been imported from China in preparation for the Dashain season.
A delegation led
by President of NADA Surendra Kumar Upreti met with Director General of the
Department of Customs Yam Lal Bhusal, and discussed the damage suffered by the
automobile sector in the recent devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa.
Upreti said that
the severe floods that hit Rasuwa, Timure and other areas on August 26 had
swept away a large number of vehicles imported from China through the Rasuwa
border.
General Secretary
of NADA Milan Babu Malla said more than 500 vehicles were stranded on the
Chinese side of the border because the Chinese border customs point is not
reopened. He requested the authorities to facilitate the movement of the
vehicles.
He also said that
11-seater electric minibuses had so far not been cleared through customs and
requested the authorities to take the necessary initiative to facilitate their
release.
Director General
Bhusal said that the government was carrying out consultations among the
Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Infrastructure Development, and Ministry of
Home Affairs to determine the modalities for providing facilities and
concessions to businesses affected by the floods.
