Chief
Executive Officer of NVIDIA, Jensen Huang, has pledged US$ 10 million to the
Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund (PMDRF).
In
a social media post on Thursday evening, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle
thanked him for the contribution.
"With
this unprecedented support, more than Rs. 10 billion has been raised for the
Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund by Thursday," informed the Ministry
of Finance (MoF).
Likewise,
Happy Energy Limited has provided Rs. 2 million to the Prime Minister
Disaster Relief Fund.
The company
handed over the amount to the Fund through Minister for Energy, Water Resources
and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha on Friday. Minister Shrestha expressed
gratitude to all those supporting people affected by the disaster during this
difficult situation.
He said
Nepalis have a tradition of standing together and helping one another during
times of crisis, adding that the same spirit and cooperation are needed at
present.
He said
that the immediate need in this difficult hour of disaster is for everyone to
“contribute whatever they can.”
Earlier
on Thursday, F1Soft Group, represented by eSewa, Fonepay, F1Soft International,
and Esewa Money Transfer, together with its employees, contributed a total of
Rs.13.5 million to the PMDRF.
"The
contribution is a collective effort from the company and its employees,
reflecting a shared desire to stand with those affected and support the relief
efforts at a time when support is needed most," the company said in the
statement.
Until
Thursday, 129,013 eSewa users have contributed Rs. 90.7 million through eSewa while
862,445 users have contributed Rs. 2.19 billion through Fonepay. The
contributions through Fonepay also include support from international
contributors, with 19,858 users contributing Rs. 42.2 million through
NPCI-integrated payments from India and 2,965 users contributing Rs. 16.3 crore
through Alipay from China and Southeast Asia.
Similarly,
Heifer International Nepal and its staff have contributed Rs. 10 million to the
Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (PMDRF) in support of communities
affected by the devastating floods and landslides along the Nepal-China border.
"For
Heifer Nepal, the contribution is both an expression of solidarity and a
practical commitment to supporting people affected by the disaster," it
said in a statement. The donation includes funds allocated from Heifer Nepal’s
emergency provision as well as contributions made directly by staff, who
dedicated a portion of their salaries to the relief effort.
Dr.
Tirtha Raj Regmi, Country Director, Heifer International Nepal, said that in
addition to this financial contribution, Heifer Nepal and its employees are also
prioritising immediate humanitarian support for affected communities, including
essential food, medical care and other urgent assistance.
According
to him, as the immediate emergency response transitions toward recovery, the
organisation will continue to explore ways to support families in restoring
their livelihoods and rebuilding resilient communities.
Likewise, the
NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal contributed Rs. 1 million to the Fund.
A
delegation led by Surendra Kumar Upreti, president of the association, handed
over a cheque bearing the amount to Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle on
Thursday.
