Kathmandu, Aug. 30
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA)
has distributed 3000 items of clothing and 50 solar lights on Sunday to around
400 children temporarily sheltering in Gosainkunda, Uttargaya and Kalika rural
municipalities in Rasuwa.
The support was distributed with the
support from NRNA CHINA.
A team led by NRNA China Vice-President
Pradeep Nepal, which travelled to Rasuwa, distributed the relief materials to
the affected children. The NRNA said the clothing and solar lights were
provided to meet the immediate needs of children affected by the floods. Prior
to this, the NRNA had provided relief materials worth Rs. 5 million in Nuwakot
over the previous two days, it informed in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the association
has also been in contact with local residents and concerned individuals in
flood-affected areas including Thuman, Uttargaya and Gosainkunda in Rasuwa, as
well as Aankhutaar, Trishuli Bazaar and Shole in Nuwakot, to assess the current
situation, the problems faced by affected residents and their immediate needs.
Based on the information collected, the
association said it has formulated a strategy for future relief, rehabilitation
and support to address both the immediate and long-term needs of those
affected. It has also met people displaced by the floods who have arrived in
Kathmandu to learn about their current situation, problems and needs.
Under the NRNA's relief campaign,
commitments for assistance worth Rs. 48.27 million have so far been received. The
funds collected would be deposited into the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief
Fund after the relief and humanitarian assistance have been provided, read the
statement.
It also said it would prepare and make
public transparent details of the assistance collected through various National
Coordination Councils (NCCs).
Alongside relief efforts, the NRNA has
continued providing health and medical assistance, taking into account the
health conditions of those affected. A team of healthcare professionals led by
Dr Sanjeev Sapkota will travel to Nuwakot on Monday.
The team will conduct health check-ups and
provide necessary medical services to affected residents. Arrangements have
also been made to refer patients requiring further treatment to the relevant
health institutions.
