Sharif calls PM Shah to express solidarity in difficult hour

Kathmandu, Aug. 28

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday and conveyed his condolences over the tragic loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the recent flash floods and landslides.

"Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the government and people of Nepal in this difficult hour," he wrote in his post on X, and added, "I assured Prime Minister Shah of our full support and conveyed that Pakistan is dispatching emergency relief assistance to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts."

Xi, Putin express condolences

Similarly, Chinese President Xi Jinping has written a message of condolence to Nepal over the huge loss of life and property in the devastating flood occurred on August 26.    
President Xi sent the condolence message to Nepali President Ramchandra Paudel, according to Chinese Embassy based in Kathmandu.

Likewise, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Balendra Shah over the heavy loss of life and extensive destruction caused by floods and mudslides in Nepal.

“We share the grief of the friendly people of Nepal,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a message issued on August 27.

President Putin conveyed his sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the natural disaster.

Australia ready to support Nepal

Meanwhile, Australia has said that it is ready to provide all possible assistance needed by Nepal in the difficult circumstances it is facing.

In a telephone talk with Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on Friday afternoon, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong pledged for the support. During the conversation, Minister Wong expressed, on behalf of the Australian Government, her deep sorrow over the loss of life caused by the disaster.

"The conversation took place as search, rescue and relief operations continued in areas affected by the devastating floods that caused significant loss of life and property in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other areas on Wednesday," FM Khanal's Secretariat informed in a statement.

Foreign Minister Khanal, expressed his gratitude to the Australian government and the people of Australia for their solidarity and support. He particularly thanked Australia for the goodwill and assistance it had demonstrated at this critical time.
