Kathmandu, Aug. 29
Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has
cancelled his trip to Serbia owing to the devastating floods that struck
Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other areas on last Wednesday.
His secretariat issued a statement on
Saturday to inform that he will not be travelling to Serbia.
Minister Khanal was scheduled to travel to
Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on Sunday to attend the High-Level
Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) scheduled on 31 August
and 1 September.
As decided by the Cabinet decision of
August 11, a three-member Nepali delegation led by FM Khanal had been preparing
to attend the event.
However, following the extensive loss of
life and property caused by the devastating floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other
areas, he has decided not to travel to Serbia.
Nepal will instead be represented at the
meeting by a two-member delegation led by Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Head of the
United Nations and International Organisations Division at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
The first NAM Summit was held in Belgrade
in 1961. The meeting is being organised in Belgrade this year to mark the 65th
anniversary of the first summit.
